Michelle Mintz Pelvic Health Specialist West Bloomfield MI

Pelvic Floor Therapy:

SHHH. Women are not taught about the most important part of their bodies- their Pelvic Floor. Rarely, does anyone talk about the changes to a women’s pelvic floor as we age. We need to change the narrative and stigma around the Pelvic Floor and Pelvic Floor dysfunction because the statistics are astounding. 1 of 3 women will have Pelvic Floor issues in their lifetime and 50% of women struggle with pelvic organ prolapse after age 50. Women often struggle in silence or assume these issues are a normal part of aging. You do not have to suffer in silence.

Pelvic Health Occupational can help with the following symptoms:

  • Leaking urine with activity, exercise, or coughing and sneezing.

  • Trouble starting a stream of urine.

  • Strong urges to go to the bathroom and have trouble holding on.

  • Excessive toileting, more than once every 2-3 hours.

  • Constipation and strain to empty my bowels.

  • Feeling as if you did not get it all out.

  • Pain with sex, difficulty with arousal or struggle to reach orgasm.

  • Difficulty or pain keeping a tampon in.

  • A feeling of heaviness or pressure in my vagina or rectum.

  • Pain in the tailbone, sacrum or pelvis.

Pelvic floor therapy is about Empowerment. Treatment will help you learn about your body and give you tools and strategies to take back control of these important life sustaining bodily functions. There is so much that can be done to help pelvic floor dysfunction and improve the quality of your life.

Michelle’s calm presence will make you feel comfortable and at ease”

“Deciding to reach out and work with Michelle Mintz was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I initially went to her for issues with my pelvic floor, but what I found upon our appointments was so much more. Firstly, she is the most patient, empathetic health care provider. She listens and genuinely cares about all of your health concerns and what happens in your daily life. Even when dealing with more intimate issues, she strives to make sure you are comfortable and feel safe. You come to quickly understand why the practice is called “Inner Connections,” as she helps point out how what is happening in life impacts our body and health. She’s given me tools to help not only to set a routine with my pelvic floor stretches and treatment, but also helped with my anxiety and stress management to help me navigate my body’s stress response and to live an all-around healthier life. Our sessions are always calming and helpful! I cannot recommend her enough; she will help change your life for the better and guide you on your journey through full-body healing! I know I absolutely could not have made the strides I’ve made without her help, guidance, and support—book your appointment now, you’ll be glad you did. Thank you, Michelle! “ (L.P.-Novi,MI)

I have been going to Michelle Mintz for a few years now and she is so wonderful! I call her my guru she is always giving me new wellness ideas and tools for anxiety and pelvic floor. She is the warmest women out there and she really want to help you! I am so happy I have her in my corner for CranioSacral and pelvic floor and that she is an asset for other wellness ideas. I can't recommend her enough! (J.C.-Birmingham)

Occupational therapists (OT’s), at Inner Connections Women, specialize in helping women regain or improve their ability to perform everyday activities and functions. In the context of pelvic floor occupational therapy, the emphasis is on how pelvic health impacts daily life; how pelvic health issues may impact a person's ability to engage in daily activities, such as work, hobbies, self-care, and social interactions. OT’s take a holistic approach that considers the broader picture of a person's life and activities. OTs work with patients to address not only physical symptoms of pelvic health issues, but also emotional and psychological factors that may affect pelvic health and overall well-being.

Occupational therapists provide interventions to address these functional limitations. OTs design individualized treatment plans that often include a combination of exercises, lifestyle modifications, and adaptive strategies.

Pelvic floor occupational therapy can be particularly beneficial for individuals with chronic pelvic pain, interstitial cystitis, irritable bowel syndrome, and other conditions that affect daily functioning.
